Privacy Policy
WaterTrust ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you submit a job through watertrust.co.uk, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
It applies to people requesting quotes for water work — whether for a home (residential) or a business (commercial). It is written under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
WaterTrust is registered at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5AB, and is the data controller. You can contact us at https://watertrust.co.uk/contact.
What we collect
When you submit a job, we collect only the information you give us on the form:
- your name
- your phone number
- your email address
- your postcode (and, optionally, your address)
- the details of the water work you describe, including whether it is for a home or a business and, for commercial jobs, the rough size of the project
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for any information beyond what is needed to pass your job to a suitable contractor.
How we use your information, and our legal basis
We use your information for one purpose: to pass your job details to a small number of approved, vetted contractors — no more than four — so that they can contact you directly about the work.
Our legal basis for this is your consent, which you give by ticking the consent box when you submit your job. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see "Your rights" below), though we cannot recall details already shared with a contractor before you withdrew it.
We may also use your information where we are required to by law, for example to deal with a legal claim or to prevent fraud.
We are open about how our service is funded: it is free for you because contractors pay us to receive the details of jobs that match their trade and area. Your information goes only to those vetted contractors, as described above — we never pass it to marketers, advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. We do not use your information for marketing, we do not share it with advertising networks, and we do not use it to show you adverts.
Who we share it with
We share your job details with up to four approved contractors who choose to take your job, so they can contact you about it. Before a contractor can see your full details, they must be vetted and approved by us.
We also use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site — for example, our website hosting and database provider. These providers process data on our behalf, under contract, and only to provide their service to us. They are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
We do not share your information with anyone else, except where we are required to do so by law.
Cookies
WaterTrust uses only the cookies that are strictly necessary to make the site work. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, and we do not allow third parties to track you through our site. Because we only use essential cookies, you do not need to take any action to use the site.
Where your information is stored
Your information is stored using our hosting and database provider. Depending on how WaterTrust is operated, your information may be processed by, or on behalf of, a WaterTrust entity outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where information is transferred outside the UK, we will take the steps required by law to make sure it remains protected to UK standards. We will update this section to set out the specific safeguards in place.
The transmission of information over the internet is never completely secure. We use appropriate measures to protect your information, but we cannot guarantee the security of data sent to the site, and any transmission is at your own risk.
How long we keep it
We keep your job details only as long as needed for the purpose above. Job listings are removed from the live site after a set period (currently 30 days), and your details are retained only for as long as is necessary and proportionate after that, or for any period the law requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances
- ask us to restrict or object to how we use your information
- withdraw your consent at any time
- receive your information in a portable format in certain circumstances
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at https://watertrust.co.uk/contact. There is no charge for making a request. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, to protect your information.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
